Student Assessment

Progress Reports and Transcripts
Quarterly progress reports are given to students on the 10th week of each semester. Grades are recorded at the end of each semester and appear on the students' permanent transcripts .
Grades
The following course marks are used: A, B, C, D, P (pass), F (fail), and I (incomplete). The marks of A, B, C, D, and P are passing marks used for students who desire course credit. The mark F (fail) indicates unsatisfactory work for which the student will not receive credit.
Classroom Assessment

Student performance is not limited to successful completion of tests. Many other assessment methods are available that provide a clear and more realistic understanding of each student's capabilities.

Group discussions and classroom participation is regularly required of First Presbyterian School students. These teaching methods simulate life beyond high school while enabling students to construct arguments and present responses in an open forum. This environment provides students the opportunity to regularly engage in listening and speaking exercises while completing the required curriculum.

Academic Standards

First Presbyterian School requires all students to maintain a minimum grade point average (gpa) of 2.0. Students who fail to acquire a 2.0 gpa at the end of any semester are placed on academic probation for the following semester. Students on academic probation who fail to obtain an overall minimum 2.0 gpa by the end of the following semester may petition for conditional status to continue attending classes to prevent being expelled. Petitions are reviewed and decisions are made based on the student's academic effort and improvement. If the student has not demonstrated continued effort and improvement, the petition may be denied and the student will be expelled from First Presbyterian School without a tuition refund
